Break up with the “old you” this Valentine’s Day

My thoughts this Valentine’s Day: do it for you and not for them. What kind of relationship do you have with yourself?

Anyone else frustrated this holiday revolves around waiting for somebody else to give you all the things you love? It’s literally ridiculous.

Buy roses for YOU. Pop a bottle for YOU. Eat an entire box of chocolates or a large pizza for YOU. Why should we be ashamed of celebrating ourselves for once?

Stick with me — As we’re pressured to evaluate the seemingly picture perfect love lives of others during this season, I wholeheartedly challenge you to take the lens inward.

Reflect on the type of relationship you have with yourself. Is it a healthy one? Are you making time for your own self care? Are you happy? Or, are you beating yourself up with an internal monologue of negative self talk?

We all know healthy relationships offer love and support. Can you honestly say you’re giving yourself those things? If the answer is no, break up with the old you.

I started 2020 with the intention to be different. To prioritize the things I love most and to cut out people, places and opportunities that are no longer fulfilling me or serving me on my path toward success and happiness. You can do the same too.

February Valentine’s Self Care Ideas

  • Treat yo’self to your favorite things: your favorite homemade pasta, a bottle of top shelf red wine, the unhealthiest but most delicious sweets you can imagine, new heels, a Netflix binge. You got this!
  • Go screen free and host a game night with your best friends. One of my absolute favorite things to do — it’s pretty much a weekly tradition for me!
  • Slow down your week with a calming bubble bath. Or if you’re feeling reallyyy boujee, schedule yourself a massage ahead of time!
  • Don’t roll your eyes at this one… Jot an inspirational quote, proud accomplishment or words of affirmation for yourself. It’s basically a love note to yourself! You is kind, you is smart, you is important! (…name that movie quote LOL.)
  • Practice gratitude and intention. You have the power to reset and recalibrate your thoughts to be positive ones. Self love baby, self love!
